Language development is the important factor in the field of deaf education. The major handicap due to hearing impairment is the lack of speech and language development, to enhance this objective Asha Niketan school caters the children with special need who come from different parts of our country. In the educational process which involves curriculum and evaluation, syllabus and text book, the teacher’s role is supreme.

At present we have classes from Nursery to Class XII . The strength of the school is 250 children of which 120 are girl children and 130 are boys. 25 percent of the total children are below poverty line. Few parents are illiterate and are daily wage laborers. We have to provide to the needs of these children like food, clothes, books, stationary, toiletry, medicines etc.

Residential facility are available for the deaf children for both boys and girls whose parents are residing outside Bhopal. From age of 4 the students are admitted in the hostel. The present inmates are 82 boys and 80 girls. A well-balanced diet is prepared for the children. Facilities are provided to them both for indoor and outdoor games. All the daily activities of the hostel are supervised by the sisters and the staff for better discipline.

We maintain a high standard of educational excellence for hearing impaired students through Total Communication (TC) approach to Deaf education that aims to make use of a number of modes of communication such as signed, oral, auditory, written and visual aids, depending on the particular needs and abilities of the child. For their all-round development we organize various competitions like; dance, karate, drawing, painting, Mehndi, Rangoli, sports etc.

The Diagnostic Center provides the service to test the degree of deafness is being used for the children as well as for adults. The early diagnosis helps for better speech and language development. The facilities available in this center are as follows:-

• Hearing Aid analysis and Fitting

• Analysis of Speech and Language

• Therapy for Stuttering and misarticulation.

Asha Niketan School for the Deaf is a full-fledged Hindi medium school with classes from K. G to class 12. Asha Niketan school follows the syllabus of MP Board. For class 11 and 12 only commerce subjects are available (Book keeping, Business studies, Economics, Hindi, and drawing)English language also is taught in all the classes.
